Christie’s 10 November Post-War & Contemporary Art Evening Sale in New York paid tribute to two of the most influential American artists of the 20th century in its offering of the Collection of John Cage and Merce Cunningham. The centerpiece of the collection was a work directly inspired by Cunningham and his company of dancers, Dancers on a Plane, by Jasper Johns, which realized $4,338,500 and was sold to benefit the Merce Cunningham Trust.
