Class of ‘96

The Ideal Bordeaux Selection, in One Hand-picked Case
For those who appreciate the trademark strength of character belonging to the mighty Cabernet Sauvignon grape, this selection of wines, hand picked by Christie’s wine expert Peter Mansell, offers an exceptional chance to compare and contrast examples from one of the great vintages.

Left is Right
The story of 1996 is a tale of two halves. Pre-harvest rains affected the earlier-ripening Merlot grape, diluting and reducing the crop in the right bank communes of Pomerol and Saint-Emilion. However conditions on the left bank were far better, with less than half the rainfall, producing exceptionally high quality grapes, particularly the late-ripening Cabernet Sauvignon. All the wines chosen here are from the left bank communes of Saint-Estèphe, Saint-Julien and Pauillac and feature Cabernet Sauvignon dominated blends; the ideal combination of an outstanding vintage from some of the best producers in the Haut-Médoc; superb wines at their peak, offering great concentration, depth and complexity.

The Perfect Wine Tasting Evening
Also including exceptional examples such as 1996 Château Lynch-Bages, rated 94 points out of 100, we think this special mixed case offers everything for the perfect wine tasting evening. Your friends certainly won’t be disappointed.
