Contemporaries: Contrasted

Both designing during the late 1920s, Emile-Jacques Ruhlmann and Jacques Le Chevallier had quite different interpretations of their world, a contrast which is reflected in their distinct designs. Le Chevallier created lighting with a modernist aesthetic that wholeheartedly embraced new materials such as aluminium, echoing many of the new technological developments in the industrial world. Ruhlmann is noted for his elegant designs and focus on high style. His works are executed to the highest standards of craftmanship and often feature exotic woods and other materials such as ivory and shagreen. To compare their respective industrial and luxurious designs, visit the presale viewing from 4-7 December, where you can view the works in person.
