‘My highlight of 2017’ — The year in review

Christie’s specialists from all over the world pick their favourite art and objects from an historic year

In a year in which scores of new world auction records were set — including the highest price ever paid for a work of art, when Leonardo’s Salvator Mundi  realised $450,312,500 in New York on 15 November — making a shortlist of highlights is anything but easy. Our specialists from around the world, however, have accepted the challenge: below they pick out their personal favourites from the thousands of stunning objects that Christie’s has appraised and admired over the course of 2017, and consider what each says about the nature of collecting and the market.
