Bordeaux & Burgundy Lead Autumn Hong Kong Fine Wine Sales
Christie’s Hong Kong autumn auctions realised HK$2.85 billion / US$366 million across 12 sales of paintings, wine, jewels, watches and works of art. This brings the 2011 full-year results, including the Forever Sales in Beijing and mid-season wine sales, to HK$7.04 billion / US$904 million – representing an impressive increase of 25% over 2010. Participation from Asian collectors was very strong, with 73% of our buyers coming from Greater China.

Christie’s Hong Kong remains at the centre of the world’s fine wine trade, particularly for top châteaux of Bordeaux Chateaux and Burgundy Domaines, reflecting demand for premium wines with the finest provenance. A total of HK$64.7 million was realised over three days of sales, with considerable interest from across Asia, as well as significant bidding from Europe and the US by phone, in the salesroom and online with Christie’s LIVE.

The top Château of Bordeaux such as Latour, Lafite, Mouton, Margaux, Haut-Brion and Pétrus continue to draw interest and competition from a global base of collectors proving the continuing status of Hong Kong as the epicenter of the fine wine trade in the world.”
