A Dazzling Success for Hong Kong Jewels
With 2011 sales of US$172 million, Hong Kong is the jewelry center that achieved the highest annual sold total for any auction house in the world, demonstrating Christie’s leadership in this field, as well as Asia’s growing importance in the jewelry market. The sale was led by a perfect pair of round D flawless diamonds of 35.77 and 35.61 cts, which achieved US $16.4 million, or $230,000 per ct, the most expensive price for colorless diamonds in Asia. The sale also featured impressive prices for fine colored stones and natural pearls, including a world record price for a pair of 25.38 and 23.12 ct cushion-shaped Colombian emerald ear pendants at US$4.0 million.
