Data initially thought that poker was a simple mathematical game of probabilities. He soon realized, however, that poker was a very human game of personalities and strength-of-will. The weekly poker game on the Enterprise-D became a metaphor for Data's exploration of humanity. It even provided the send-off for the last scene of the final episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation, when Captain Picard proclaimed "the sky's the limit."
