Basins of this remarkable size dating to the Qianlong period are rare. An octagonal 17th century example decorated with dragon and phoenix with a lotus flower head border in the Royal Scottish Museum, Edinburgh is illustrated by Sir Harry Garner in Chinese and Japanese Cloisonné Enamels, London, 1962, no. 60; a hexagonal lobed basin dated to the second half of 17th century and decorated with archaistic dragons is illustrated by H.
