2o (533 x 334 mm). Engraved title, manuscript index of maps at beginning, 147 engraved maps, numbered in a contemporary hand, all double-page, some folding, ALL COLORED IN A CONTEMPORARY HAND. (Map of Great Britain with chipping to green coloring, map of Hungary torn along fold, some maps trimmed closely, some light browning and staining.) Publisher's vellum (stained, some wear).
A FINE COMPOSITE ATLAS, principally comprising maps published by de Wit with additional maps by Visscher, Allard, Chatelain and Mortier. It contains a World map: Carel Allard, Planisphaerium Terrestre, sive Terrarum Orbis... Amsterdam ca. 1705 (Shirley 578); a map of Europe, maps of Spain, Portugal, France, Italy, Germany, the Low Countries, England, Scandinavia, Russia, Poland, Hungary, 11 maps of Asia including Ottens, Imperium Japonicum ... Frederick de Wit was one of the foremost mapmakers in Amsterdam in the late 17th century, taking over as the power and control of the Blaeu family declined. On his death in 1706, his widow continued the shop until 1709 when the plates were sold on to Covens and Mortier in the spring of 1710.
