FIRST EDITION, FIRST STATE OF TEXT AND PLATES, in a mixed issue binding. The usual points (advertisement and colophon enclosed in boxes, front lining paper pale grey, "peices" for "pieces" on p. 81 and "While Tin Woodman" for "While the Woodman" on p. 227, plates opposite p. 34 and 92 in earliest states), etc. The imprint at the base of the spine is in red and the rays surrounding the emerald on the rear cover are not outlined.
