Carved all-over with scrolls, foliage and feathers, the winged back centred by a lid, the bird resting on a baluster stem, on a stepped oval domed-base

Lot Essay

This dragon-bird is based on various models made in the late 16th century by members of the Saracchi family. Two examples, previously in the Medici collections, are now in the Museo degli Argenti, Florence. Another is in the Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.
