Further details

It seems likely that this is the earliest known photograph of a Derby winner. Craven exhibited one of these images, probably the one with his house at Ashdown in the background, at the Edinburgh Photographic Society in 1856. The second version with the background painted out in the negative shows his interest in experimentation.

Il semble que cette photographie soit la plus ancienne connue d'un vainqueur du Derby. En 1856, Craven exposa une de ces images, probablement celle montrant à l'arrière-plan sa maison à Ashdown, à l'Edinburgh Photographic Society. La deuxième version où le fond est effacé dans le négatif montre son goût pour l'expérimentation.
