Lot Essay

Pupil of the Ecole des Beaux Arts, Paris and the artists Rouillard, Jouffroy and A. Millet. He exhibited in the Paris Salon from 1870 until his death. His talent was recognised in his own time, with a third class medal in 1876, second class in 1879 and first class in 1880. Lanson was made Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1882. With this sculpture L'orage he was awarded a Grand Prix at the Exposition des Beaux Arts in Paris.
