Lot Essay

Walmsley was an accomplished artist and follower of the 'picturesque' school of painters. This highly atmospheric scene is the original for a series of hand coloured aquatint engravings executed by Francis Jukes (1745-1812) that illustrated Walmsley's Views in North Wales, 1792-4 published by Jukes & Sarjent.
