QUR'AN, Illuminated Arabic manuscript on paper
[Iran, Early 18th Century]302 x 82mm. 356 + 2 leaves, COMPLETE, 15ll. of black askh within blue, gold, turquoise, red and black rules, on gold speckled paper, gold quatrefoil aya divisions, marginal gold and polychrome palmettes marking juz' and half-juz' divisions, finely illuminated sura headings in gold thuluth over coloured ground and with blue, gold and polychrome spandrels, illuminated margins with broadly drawn gold, blue and orange foliage within outer red rules, ff.1v. and 2r. each with central ovoid blue cusped panel issuing at top and bottom green palmette panels, all with gold benedictory inscriptions in thuluth over spiralling gold arabesque, all within ground of spiralling gold vine, ff.2v. and 3r. with opening text of Qur'an in black naskh reserved in clouds against a gold ground, sura headings in gold thuluth over blue ground above and ura count below within finely illuminated borders of gold arabesque with polychrome flowers over gold and blue ground, ff.3v. and 4r. with borders in gold, blue and red spiralling arabesque issuing split palmettes, final pages later signed and dated, contemporary black morocco binding with cut, stamped, gilded and painted decoration, some pages split, but generally very good condition

The final folio contains the colophon. The scribe is given as al-Ghani b. Shams al-ahi Muhammed Ahmad al-Tabrizi and is dated 1147 AH (1734-35 AD). The manuscript was remargined in 19th century Qajar.
