Elephant 2° (900 x 675mm). Text printed in brown on thick paper. Lithographed title printed in red and gilt, 18 full-page chromolithographs mounted on thick paper with printed bilingual captions, by various engravers for Lemercier after Zichy, Timm, Sorieul, Bagantz, Blanchard, Teichel and others, tinted folding panorama of Moscow, and 32 lithographed illustrations, two of these in colour, printed on india paper and mounted as issued. (Some spotting on the title and a very few marginal spots, a very few leaves with small marginal dampstain). Publisher's original full morocco, upper side with red morocco on-lay with Alexander and Maria's interlaced cipher stamped in gilt, surrounded by a large gilt block of the various regional imperial army flags and shields, spine gilt with imperial regalia, original brass corner pieces, bosses, clasps and catches, gilt edges, white coated endpapers (lower joint split, upper joint starting, spine-ends chipped off, light wear, front free endpaper and conjugate blank detached).
FIRST EDITION OF THE MOST SUMPTUOUS OF THE IMPERIAL CORONATION ALBUMS. A very good example of the rare Russian-language issue, in the original deluxe binding with the brassware in excellent condition, and with fine chromolithographs mostly after Timm and Zichy. Privately issued at the time of the coronation to guests and participants, it is 'one of the most spectacular and ambitious Russian imprints of the century, it was never offered for sale and is a great bibliographic rarity.
