Lot Essay

The scenes on each side of this teapot, as well as those on the teabowls from the same service in the following lot, are all derived from sheet 18 of J.G. Höroldt's Schulz Codex. For the scene on the other side of this teapot with the corresponding Schulz Codex cartoon, see page 85.

For a teabowl and saucer by a very similar hand, see Maureen Cassidy-Geiger, The Arnhold Collection of Meissen Porcelain 1710-1750 (2008), pp. 299-300, no. 75, where the scenes are also taken from sheet 18 of the Schulz Codex.
