Lot Essay

The pencil drawing of the young girl dated 1883 depicts Jane Hales, a model and sometimes maid for the de Morgans, she posed for important oils such as Love's Passing, 1883-4, The Dryad, 1884-5 and The Sea Maidens, 1885-6 (all De Morgan Foundation).
