Ralph Edwards in the The Dictionary of English Furniture, London, rev. ed., 1954, p. 318, discusses this form of Georgian hall-seat for 'page or porter', and illustrates the celebrated example at Blenheim Palace, Oxfordshire. A related seat was sold by The Parham Park Trust, Christie's house sale, 13 May 1996, lot 107.
