Lot Essay

A rare image, not recorded in Edward Wakeling's register.

Frederica "Freddy" Harriette was the daugter of Frederick, Oxford University solicitor and one time Mayor of Oxford, and Harriette Anne Morrell, née Wynter, daughter of President Wynter of St. John's College.

A portrait of Frederica's mother Harriette, one of her sister Margaret and another of Frederica with Margaret are recorded to have been taken by Carroll in July 1873 (R. Taylor & E. Wakeling, Lewis Carroll: Photographer, Princeton & Oxford, 2002, p.268).
