A CHINESE EXPORT PORCELAIN ARMORIAL SERVICE
QIANLONG, CIRCA 1795
Each piece is painted with the arms of MacDonald, the senior baronet of Nova Scotia, accollée with Forbes, leaning against a palm tree bearing fruit and suspending purple ribbon with the motto PER MARE PER TERRAS, surrounded by an unusual grapevine border on the rim and centered by the MacDonald crest, an arm in armour in fess holding a crosslet fitched gules and the motto NEC TEMPORE NEC FATO, comprising:
A pair of oval vegetable tureens, covers and liners, 11½ in. (29.2 cm.) wide
A pair of rectangular vegetable tureens and covers, 11¾ in. (29.8 cm.) wide
A pair of shaped oval vegetable tureens and covers, 11 in. (28 cm.) wide
A pair of large oval hot water dishes, 15 5/8 in. (39.6 cm) wide
