Internships

Christie's Americas Internship Programme

Christie's offers unpaid Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall internships in specialist and business support departments that provide a hands-on introduction to the inner workings of an auction house and to the New York art world. An internship at Christie’s involves a combination of general day to day tasks associated with the auction process, opportunities for researching artists and objects, and occasions to attend organized intern events.

The majority of internships take place at the Rockefeller Center location. Select internships divide time between our Rockefeller Center office and Redstone, our pre- and post-shipping handling facility, in Long Island City. We also have internship opportunities in our regional offices throughout the United States.

Internship Programmes
Internships are available in Specialist and Business Support departments, such as:

  • Auction
  • Business Development
  • Human Resources
  • IT
  • Legal
  • Marketing
  • Operations
  • Public Relations
  • Special Events

All interns are welcome to attend auctions held in our main saleroom at 20 Rockefeller Plaza.

Winternship Internship Programme
This full-time, six-week program is designed for students to gain experience in the art world during their Winter break from school. The program is similar to the spring and fall internships in structure but on a smaller scale.

  • Winternship 2011/2012: December 12, 2011-January 20, 2012

Fall and Spring Internship Programmes
Participants in these sessions will have hands-on experience on a part-time basis, with the added benefit of being immersed in various aspects of the auction business during the height of our sale seasons. Interns will attend lectures on fine and decorative arts given by Christie's specialists, as well as enjoy museum and gallery visits. General length for these programs follows our auction season.

  • Spring Session: January 23, 2012-May 11, 2012
  • Fall Session: September 4, 2012-December 14, 2012

Summer Internship Programme
Christie’s offers two, full-time, six-week programs that give students hands-on experience during their summer vacation. Each program starts with a brief orientation, after which participants will be placed in departments according to their interests and background.

Accepted students will work in their assigned department for the duration of the program. Note that due to the high level of interest, we cannot offer placement in both sessions.

  • Summer A: May 30, 2012-July 6, 2012
  • Summer B: July 9, 2012-August 17, 2012

Special Internship Programmes

Gallery Design Internship
The Gallery Design Internship is offered year-round and is a one-month, or longer, internship, which focuses solely on the layout, design and execution of an Interiors sale. The internship provides an opportunity for a design student to create, design and execute a layout for a Christie’s Interiors sale. Each sale has roughly 1,000+ lots that are all items from homes - beds, tables, mirrors, chandeliers etc. The internship is a wonderful springboard for a student’s development and is intended to foster creativity and innovation while providing an environment that teaches the basics of people management, collaboration, and team dynamics.

Requirements
  • All interns must be degree-seeking students currently enrolled in school.
  • The internship must be relevant to the student’s current course of study.
  • Interns must provide a letter from their school confirming that the student is receiving school credit for the internship, or
  • Provide a letter of acknowledgement from their school recognizing the internship if credit is not offered.

Application Instructions
For all internships, candidates must apply online for the Americas Internship Programme. Regarding all programs, except summer, you will be contacted directly by the department to schedule an interview. For the summer program, accepted participants will be notified in early spring.

Application Deadlines
  • Winter 2011/2012 - November 1, 2011
  • Spring 2012 - December 2, 2011
  • Summer 2012 - February 6, 2012
  • Applications for the design internship will be accepted on a rolling basis

International Candidates
International students may apply for a U.S. internship as long as they are a degree-seeking student, have a letter of acknowledgement from their school, and have the necessary Visa status. Christie’s does not sponsor Visas for student interns. Eligibility will be determined on a case by case basis.

Accommodations
Successful applicants are responsible for their own living arrangements. Suggested housing options can be provided upon request.
