Christie's UK Work Experience Programme
What is Work Experience?
Christie’s London provides successful applicants with the opportunity to spend a maximum period of two weeks within the company gaining an insight into the work of an international art business and observing day-to-day operations.
The programme is run for the benefit of applicants with a genuine interest in art, business or a career in the Art World. It aims, to give individuals an insight into Christie’s work and its role in the Art World by providing them with the opportunity to shadow employees of the company.
Basis of Arrangement
Work Experience is carried out on a voluntary basis. It is not paid and we do not reimburse travel or other expenses.
Eligibility
The work experience must be arranged and authorised via the Human Resources Department. We undertake a selection process based on formal criteria, the application form and/or an interview. The minimum eligibility criteria for work experience are:
- Minimum of 18 years old;
- Must be eligible to legally work in the UK;
- Have completed a work experience application form online
- Willingness to sign and comply with Christie’s confidentiality agreement
Duration of Work Experience
Work Experience can last up to two weeks. Christie’s is limiting placements to two weeks both to maximise the number of work experience placements available and also to minimise the placement progressing beyond work shadowing and thus becoming legally paid work.
Hours
The standard hours worked by Christie’s employees are 9:00am to 5:00pm with one hour for lunch. In order to ensure that each individual undertaking work experience benefits to the greatest extent possible from their placement we advise that they mirror these hours. However as volunteers, our work experience applicants are not obliged to keep these hours.
Dress Code
Professional and appropriate attire is expected of all work experience applicants in accordance with the Christie’s dress code. Jackets must always be worn in public areas including Salerooms and Front of House areas.
Choice of Department
Successful applicants will be allocated to a department having regard to their specified choice and availability. Although we use all reasonable efforts to place individuals in the department of their choice, this is not always possible due to the number of applications and places available in those departments. Please be assured that wherever individuals are placed they will gain an insight into Christie’s, whether in a specialist, business or administrative department.
How to Apply
All applicants must complete the
Work Experience Application Form.
We regret that demand for Work Experience positions usually exceeds availability of places on the scheme and therefore at periods of high demand we are unable to offer any places. There are currently no placements remaining for summer 2011. Our earliest availability is in September 2011.
