Internships

Christie’s Los Angeles Internship Program

Structure
Christie's offers Spring, Summer and Fall internships in specialist departments and selected support departments at its Los Angeles saleroom in Beverly Hills. Successful applicants will be placed in available positions according to their interests and background, which will expose them to the operations of an auction house as they perform various administrative/clerical tasks. Internships are available in the departments of 20th Century Decorative Arts and Design, Client Services, and Jewelry.

Summer Internship Program
This part time internship lasts from June until August, and offers a hands-on introduction to the inner workings of an auction house and to the Los Angeles art world. The internship will start with orientation, after which each participant will be assigned to a department where he/she will work for the duration of the summer program. Participants will attend regular lectures on fine and decorative arts given by Christie's specialists, as well as frequent museum and gallery visits.

Fall and Spring Internship Programs
Participants in these sessions will have the same hands-on experience, with the added benefit of being immersed in various aspects of the auction business during our sale seasons. General internship length for these programs is the same as the auction seasons - Spring (January - May) and Fall (September - December).

Practical Experience/Values
Christie’s believes that experience is best gained through practical involvement in the activities of our departments. As a result, interns will be given the opportunity to participate in ways which are designed to enable them to gain an overview of each different aspect of the department’s activities. Normal tasks allocated include administration, archiving, catalogue notes, research, managing libraries, covering phones, and other specific projects.

For Academic Credit
Unpaid internships are available to students who are able to earn academic credit. Weekly hours and the duration of the internship are in accordance with university requirements. Interns are generally requested to work 16-24 hours per week or 2-3 days.

For Pay
Effective January 1, 2009, Christie’s will no longer extend internships for pay.
