Christie’s is pleased to announce the auction of The Ross Hamilton Collection: Journeys to Pimlico Road to be held in the South Kensington saleroom, London on 27 February 2013. Featuring over 375 lots, this fascinating collection from the celebrated Pimlico Road shop, now closed after forty years of trading, comprises a wide range of decorative and fine arts, embodying the vision and taste of the owners, the late Ross Hamilton and Mark Boyce. The works of art offered define the timeless dialogue between the East and the West and superbly exemplify the elegant fusion between these distinct cultures. The collection comprises Indian, Chinese, English and European Furniture, Chinese, Japanese and European ceramics and works of art, Old Masters, 19th and 20th century paintings, and the offering promises to provide bidding opportunities for collectors at every level, with estimates for individual lots ranging from £400 up to £40,000. The collection as a whole is expected to realise in excess of £750,000.

Encouraged by his mentor David Hicks, Australian-born Ross Hamilton (1942-1992) was one of the first antique dealers to set up shop on Pimlico Road, opening a humble store with his name above the door in 1973 and aiding the transformation of the area into what is now an internationally renowned centre in London for the antiques trade. Mark Boyce joined the Ross Hamilton gallery in 1978, complementing Hamilton’s self-described ‘truffle-hound’ ways, and his gifted natural instinct for finding pictures, furniture and objects, all of the highest quality. The shop was a success from its foundation and throughout the years welcomed numerous high profile clients including Rudolf Nureyev, Bill Blass, Richard Gere, Elton John and Princess Lee Radziwell, as well as many internationally respected decorators such as David Mlinaric, Jed Johnson, Mark Hampton and Chester Jones.
