The time has come and you’re preparing to bid. What’s next? Before you can bid you have to register. Whether you plan to bid in person or online, you can register for any sale in advance via our auction calendar.
All bidders are required to create a Christie’s Account. You will be asked to provide your full name, address and contact details including telephone and email, along with government issued photo ID and proof of address. For certain transactions, you may be asked for a financial reference and/or a deposit as a condition of allowing you to bid.
If you plan to bid remotely with Christie’s LIVE™ or submit an online absentee bid, you should first create a My Christie’s account. If you already have an online account, you can simply log in.
If you plan to attend the sale to bid in person or bid over the phone, you should register in advance with the local saleroom’s Bid Department.
Bidding in person offers a thrill like no other. You will need to register in advance with the local saleroom’s Client Service with your photo ID, and to collect a paddle before the auction begins. New clients are encouraged to register 24 hours in advance of a sale to allow sufficient time for us to process your information.
Online with Christie’s LIVE™
Christie’s online bidding platform with real-time live streaming video brings the excitement of the saleroom right to your computer so that you can bid from the comfort of your home or from anywhere else in the world.
Clients who wish to bid with Christie’s LIVE™ should register at least 24 hours in advance of the sale. Once you’ve registered, you can enter the online saleroom from 15 minutes before the start of the sale, or at any point during the sale. Just visit the Auction Calendar, find the sale you want, then click the "Enter Sale" button to the right. This will launch Christie's LIVE™ in your browser window where you’ll see live-streaming video of the auction in real time and an easy-to-use interface for bidding against competitors on the floor. If you prefer to bid by phone, we will call you from the saleroom and bid on your behalf. To register, contact your local saleroom's Bid Department.
By Absentee Bid
What if you’re unable to attend an auction? Simply place an absentee bid (also commonly referred to as a written bid) at least 24 hours before the sale and we will bid on the item for you. It's easy. Just submit your maximum bid online by selecting the lot you wish to bid on. You can also download the Christie's Absentee Bid Form and fax or email it to the Bid Department.

In addition, Christie's conducts sales with all bidding taking place exclusively online. Online-only bids can be submitted throughout the duration of the bidding period (typically a 2-week window), as detailed in the lot description.
