
Christie's holds British & Irish Art sales in its two London salerooms in June and November. In addition to British Pictures 1500-1850, Victorian & Traditionalist Pictures, 20th Century British Art and British Art on Paper, the department also hosts some of Christie's most popular theme sales, including The Irish Sale, The Scottish Sale, Sporting Art and Maritime Pictures.
Among Christie's ground-breaking sales is the auction of The Forbes Collection of Victorian Pictures & Works of Art, the finest collection of Victorian art to appear at auction in the last 60 years, totaling just under £17 million ($27 million) and setting 65 new world auction records (February 2003).
Christie’s British Art Week in November 2006 realised a total of £32.1 million ($60.8 million) with 20th Century British Art achieving £12.5 million, a record total for the category anywhere. The total for British Art Week in June and November 2006 realised a combined total of £64.9 million ($121.2 million).
