Rachel Hidderley

Rachel Hidderley joined Christie's in 1987 and headed Christie's 20th Century British Art department from 1998 until 2008, a period of enormous growth in the market which culminated in the June 2007 sale, which achieved £14.5 million and set world auction records for many artists, including £3.7 million for a painting by L.S. Lowry.

Rachel holds an honours degree in English Studies and has written extensively on artists from the 20th Century British schools.

Philip Harley

Philip joined Christie's in 1993 and has worked in the field of 20th Century British Art since 1994, contributing to Christie's lead in this category. He was appointed Co-Head of the department in April 2007 and Department Head in July 2008. As a highly respected and knowledgeable specialist in this field Philip has contributed to Christie's setting numerous auction records for artists such as L.S. Lowry, William Scott, Paul Nash, Graham Sutherland and Samuel John Peploe. Collectors and clients worldwide seek his advice on both buying and selling collections and works of art at auction.

Philip holds a M.A. in Art History from the University of St. Andrews.

William Porter

Department Head - British and Irish Art

William joined Christie's in 1994 and became Head of the 20th Century British & Irish Art department at South Kensington in 2000. Since this date, William has overseen the dramatic growth of 20th Century British Art at South Kensington, which saw the department achieve record results in 2006 of over £5 million. William has been instrumental in making Christie's South Kensington the leading auction house for artist's studio sales -- Derek Hill, Robert Bevan, Hilda Carline and Ivor Roberts-Jones, to name but a few -- and in 2006 oversaw the single-owner collection The Poetry of Crisis: Surrealist and Avant-Garde Art 1930-1951, which set over 20 new auction records.

Johanna Baring

Johanna has worked in the field of 20th Century British Art for seven years, joining Christie's in 2002. She is responsible for sourcing and handling works for the sales of 20th Century British and Irish Art at Christie's South Kensington.

Johanna is a graduate of Brasenose College, Oxford and the Courtauld Institute of Art in London.

James Gould

James joined Christie's in 2002 with an extensive background in the Arts and Public Relations. Since then, he has played a key role in the immense growth of 20th Century British Art at Christie's South Kensington. James has been instrumental in developing the market for British Surrealism and other particular interests including 1960s Pop Art, St. Ives and Wilhelmina Barns-Graham. James is also responsible for 20th Century Scottish Art at Christie's South Kensington.

Lydia Wingfield Digby

Lydia Wingfield Digby joined the 20th Century British department at South Kensington in 2004. Lydia is responsible for research and cataloguing of the 20th Century British Art sales and has a particular interest in the St. Ives School.

Lydia holds a degree in Anglo Saxon, Norse and Celtic from Girton College, Cambridge.

Pippa Jacomb

Pippa Jacomb joined the 20th Century British Art Department at Christie's King Street in 2005. She is responsible for cataloguing and researching works for sale. Pippa holds an M.A. in History of Art from the University of Edinburgh.

André Zlattinger

Senior Director

André Zlattinger has been in the auction world for more than 15 years and has recently joined Christie's from another leading auction house, where he was a Senior Director in the British Art department. He has over the years specialised primarily in British Art and Scottish pictures, where he has been instrumental in developing the Scottish Colourist market over the years. He has been responsible for numerous auction records for artists such as Anne Redpath, Joan Eardley, Samuel John Peploe, Francis Campbell Boileau Cadell and George Leslie Hunter.

André has written extensively for publications on British paintings and is currently working on a book about John Duncan Fergusson. He has been involved with a number of land mark sales in 20th Century British and Irish Art amongst them the collection of Lord and Lady Attenborough and more recently the Selwyn Demmy collection of works by L.S. Lowry.

Gus Granlund

Gus Granlund joined the British & Irish Art department at Christie's South Kensington in January 2005, becoming Head of Sale for British & Continental Pictures in October 2007. Under his leadership this category has enjoyed its most successful period. Gus has recently joined the 20th Century British Art department and brings a wealth of knowledge and a particular interest in the post-war period.

Gus is a graduate of Bristol University with a B.A. Hons in Art History.
