Chairman, Christie’s Switzerland
Andreas Rumbler, Chairman, Christie’s Switzerland, and Deputy Chairman, Impressionist & Modern Art, joined Christie’s London in 1989. He started in the Print Department as Specialist, moved to the Impressionist & Modern Art Department where he became responsible for the German & Austrian Art Sales. He was appointed Director of the 20th Century Art Department in 1999. Andreas established the German & Austrian Art Sales as a seasonal highlight which resulted in record prices for German Expressionist artists such as Feininger, Kirchner, Nolde, Campendonk, Schmidt-Rotluff and others. Andreas was appointed International Director in 2006 and advises private collectors and institutions in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Japan on buying and selling. As an auctioneer he holds sales for Christie’s in London, New York and Zurich as well as charity sales worldwide.
In March 2010 Andreas moved to Zurich and was appointed Senior Director for Christie’s Europe. In January 2012, he was promoted to the role of Deputy Chairman, Impressionist and Modern Art, and was promoted to Chairman, Christie’s Switzerland, in April 2012. In Switzerland, Andreas looks after top Swiss clients and helps drive private sales in this important region.
