The Impressionist & Modern Art Department offers paintings, sculptures and works on paper by the foremost artists of the late 19th century and first half of the 20th century. Artists included are Cézanne, Giacometti, Matisse, Monet, Picasso, van Gogh and all those who forged artistic movements such as Impressionism, Fauvism, Cubism and Surrealism.
Christie's hosts major sales of Impressionist & Modern Art in New York and London. Twice a year, both salerooms feature an Evening Sale, a Day Sale, and a specialized sale of Works on Paper. Separate curated sales of Italian Art and Art of the Surreal are also held annually in London.
For the year 2007, Christie’s Impressionist & Modern Art department achieved £714 million ($1,442 million) with new world auction records set for masters including Matisse, Signac, Pissarro, Giacometti, Miro, and Gris. Christie’s London Evening Sale in June alone realised £121,127,200 ($239,952,983), a record total for any auction ever held in Europe.
