The Irish Art market has witnessed tremendous growth in the last decade and Christie’s annual sale of Irish Art, now in its twelfth year, has seen auction records smashed and exceptional prices achieved across three centuries of Irish Art. The strength of Christie’s, as the world’s leading auction house, places Irish Art on an international stage and our global awareness and sensitivity to regional needs have produced very strong results.
The Irish Sale in May 2008 saw sustained interest and competitive bidding across the board with world record prices maintained for works by Nathaniel Hone, George Barret, Jack Butler Yeats and Paul Henry.
The sale also reflected the burgeoning strength of Irish Contemporary art and showcased work by William Crozier, Ciaran Lennon, Hector McDonnell and Rowan Gillespie.
