
Christie's holds a number of world auction records, including £3,631,500 for an important bronze fountainhead in the form of a Hind, Spain, c. mid-10th century (1997); £3,303,750 for a Mamluk enameled and gilded clear glass jug, Egypt or Syria, second half 13th century (2000); and £1,763,750 for a painting The Building of King Dasaratha's Sacrifice, 1594 AD (2000). Christie's sales cover carpets, ceramics, manuscripts and metalwork from the Islamic realm, which stretches from the Middle East and Southern Spain to China, India and Southeast Asia.
The artistic expression, which incorporates Greco-Roman and Persian influences, is reflected in an intricate web of geometric, floral and foliate patterns. Islamic sales are held in London.
