Christie's as a long standing history of success at selling drawings by Old Masters. Old Master Drawings are offered in our Old Masters and 19th Century Art sales held in New York, London, and Paris. The drawings offered in these sales include artists from the 14th to the 19th centuries who worked in Italy, France, the Low Countries, Germany, Spain and other areas of Europe. Among the most famous names are Michelangelo, Parmigianino, Raphael, Boucher, Ingres, Goya, Rubens and Rembrandt. Christie’s held the very successful Chatsworth sale in 1984 which fundamentally changed the market for Old Master Drawings and is still the sale that realized the highest total in the category. Other notable successes include Horse and Rider by Leonardo da Vinci and the The Risen Christ by Michelangelo, that both sold at Christie's for £8,143,750 and hold the joint world auction record for any drawing sold at auction. Christie's also holds the world auction record for any Dutch, German, French and Spanish Old Master drawing.
