Since establishing the first sale dedicated to Orientalist Art in 1998, Christie’s has led the field in this exiting collecting area. Our knowledge of this market, and the international collectors that support it, enables Christie’s to present an international platform of the highest quality works with sales of Orientalist art in London, Paris and New York. Our sales are marketed and exhibited alongside Christie’s pioneering sales of Arab, Iranian and Western Art in Dubai, a unique approach offering buyers the very best works available and sellers the broadest collector base in the Middle East, Europe and beyond.
The market for Orientalist art has shown extraordinary growth, from £10.9m (2005) to £16m (2006) to over £25m (2007), driven by increased participation of new clients, primarily from the Middle East and Turkey. Never before has the global appetite for Orientalist art been so strong.
With this expanding demand, Christie’s will hold four Orientalist Art sales per year. The main Orientalist sales will take place in July in London and in October in New York. In cooperation with Christie’s Dubai, Orientalist sales which focus on 20th century artists and a selection of modern Arab and Iranian art are held in June and December in Paris.
