Scottish Art

Never before has there been such widespread general interest in Scottish art. Every October, Christie's holds a sale dedicated to Scottish Art in Edinburgh offering a rich variety of works reflecting the distinct personality of the Scotland's landscape and people and executed by Scottish artists from the 16th century to the present day.

Spectacular prices have been achieved for works coming on the market in recent years. Particularly sought after are works by Henry Raeburn, Allan Ramsay, David Wilkie, the Nasmyth family, Edwin Landseer, Joseph Farquharson, the Glasgow Boys, Anne Redpath, Joan Eardley, Robin Philippson and Alberto Morrocco.

Christie’s continues to dominate the Scottish Colourist market -- Samuel J. Peploe, John D. Fergusson, Francis B. Cadell and George L. Hunter. Prices have never been so strong as their work attracts an increasingly wider and more international audience.

Christie's held their first dedicated sale of Scottish Art in London at King Street on 25 May 2007 which included a section devoted to works by Contemporary artists. There will be two sales in April and October in 2008.

Scottish picture specialists regularly travel throughout the United Kingdom. They also visit America, Canada, South Africa and Australia in search of consignments.
