From the glamour of horseracing to the thrill of the hunt, sporting art is a genre that appeals to a wide range of collectors worldwide. Works offered for sale can range from $1,000 to over $4 million, while the genre's increasing popularity has made this a very exciting market today. Auctions take place twice a year - in London (May) and New York (December).
Typically, Christie's Sporting Art sales feature oil paintings, watercolours, sculptures, trophies and related objects dating from the 18th century to the present day.
Sporting art encompasses a rich and exciting variety of images of animals and traditional country sports, as well as wildlife paintings. This collecting category has a history that goes back over 300 years, when paintings of racehorses and other favourite animals were first commissioned.
Christie's specialists are always accepting consignments. Please do not hesitate to contact one of the specialists in the department, if you wish to discuss the sale of your property.
