From 18 until 20 January 2013, Christie’s Japan will host an exhibition of Surrealist, Impressionist and Modern highlights from the upcoming London sales offering a rare opportunity to view seminal works by key figures of the movements. The view will also include a selection of Asian works of art from the New York sales. Highlights include Modigliani’s
Jeanne Hebuterne au chapeau, painted in 1919. The work is a striking portrait of the artist’s wife which demonstrates Modigliani’s unique style that earned him his fame. Also on view will be work by Renoir, including
L'ombrelle painted at the height of Impressionism, and Magritte’s
A la rencontre du plaisir, a wonderful example of the great surrealist's work, challenging the viewer’s perceptions of reality with his iconic bowler-hatted men.

From January 24-26, 2013, Christie’s New York will host an exhibition of Surrealist, Impressionist and Modern highlights from the upcoming London sales offering a rare opportunity to view seminal works by key figures of the movements.
Highlights include Modigliani’s
Jeanne Hebuterne au chapeau, painted in 1919. The work is a striking portrait of the artist’s wife which demonstrates Modigliani’s unique style that earned him his fame. Among the other works on view are Joan Miró’s
L’ échelle de l’ évasion (The Ladder of Escape) from 1939, whose strong textural quality sets the scene for Miró’s provocative visual language and Henri Matisse’s
Jeune fille à la moresque, robe verte, which defines the beginning of Matisse’s Nice period and the re-introduction of the arabesque into his work.
