Selected Works and Projects from the Royal College of Art Show 2013
EVENT DATE: 8–12 JULY 2013
21st Century Art and Design – RCA 2013 brings together a selection of new works and projects by postgraduate students across Royal College of Art. Curated by Professor Ute Meta Bauer, Dean of School of Fine Art, RCA; Philippe Garner, Director of 20th Century Decorative Art & Photographs, Christie's and Jeremy Morrison, Senior Director, 20th Century Decorative Art & Design, Christie's, the exhibition includes a range of more than 40 works and projects selected out of the current RCA Show 2013.
At Christie’s, RCA will present the rich variety of disciplines and approaches that characterize the artistic and educational environment of the Royal College of Art spanning from Textiles to Fine Art, Design Product, Ceramics & Glass to Vehicle Design. Playfully responding to the context of an auction house, the exhibition will engage directly with Christie’s specific sales categories, their boundaries and ascribed definitions. How can one categorize a pair of shoes casted in bronze or a plate embroidered in silk? In this light, the exhibition’s methodology is informed directly by RCA students whose inter-disciplinary works and projects question existing categories and taxonomies and challenge the frontiers between art and design, object and art work.
