Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon Auction

EVENT DATE: 2 April 2014

The Whitechapel Gallery is proud to announce an auction of new works of art with all proceeds to Whitechapel Gallery’s Education and Community programme which works with 15,000 children and young people in East London each year.

The works have been donated by 12 emerging and established artists on the occasion of the inaugural Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon award, which is being presented to the British artist Howard Hodgkin. Tom Best of Christie’s will conduct the auction.

The auction features a range of specially donated original works of art from artists in homage to Howard Hodgkin, including Caroline Achaintre, Charlie Billingham, Luke Dowd, Adham Faramawy, Andy Harper, Zara Matthews, Christian Newby, Robert Orchardson, Bruno Pacheco, Hannah Perry, Henrijs Preiss and Lara Viana.

The Swarovski Whitechapel Gallery Art Icon aims to honour the lifetime achievement of one of our greatest artists. Howard Hodgkin will be presented with the award at a gala dinner hosted by Whitechapel Gallery Director Iwona Blazwick OBE and Nadja Swarovski, Member of the Swarovski Executive Board, on 2 April 2014.

Guests are invited to buy tickets for the evening and take part in the charity auction to help raise funds for the Whitechapel Gallery. Guests can place absentee bids prior to the event and the works will be auctioned by Tom Best of Christie’s on the night.
