Highclere Castle | 3 August 2014
Online Charity Auction | 1-14 August
As part of the Heroes at Highclere charity event at Highclere Castle on Sunday, 3 August 2014, Christie’s is delighted to have curated an exhibition showcasing a range of artifacts from countries affected by WW1. The exhibition – Centenary Stories: Remembering the First World War – tells the human story of men and women involved in the war, at home and abroad, through letters, photographs and artifacts from a host of countries. The Centenary Stories exhibition will be available to view online through January 2015.
Christie’s is also pleased to present a timed online-only auction – Heroes at Highclere: Experience the real Downton Abbey. Running from 1-14 August, the online auction features 12 experiences and items that offer a taste of life at Highclere Castle, the real Downton Abbey. Experiences include a dinner for eight, an overnight stay for a group in Lady Sybil’s, Lady Edith’s, and Lady Cora’s quarters, a lesson from the Highclere butler in how to set the table, and a behind-the-scenes tour of the House of Lords plus afternoon tea with Baroness Jenkins.
All proceeds raised by the auction will go to Armed Forces charities which support both veterans and victims of war, including The Royal British Legion, Oxfam and Combat Stress.
