THE ART OF LIVING

17 July 2009  |  Week in Review  |  Fine Art

July 11 – July 17

This week: Christie’s brings the art world to the iPhone; ArtHamptons celebrates its second year; James Ensor retrospective on view at MoMA; ‘Zero in New York’ assembles works from the Dusseldorf-born movement; and Shaker antiques are discovered and shared.

  • James Ensor Unmasked The grandfather of Belgian avant-garde art and a precursor to the development of Expressionist Art in the early 20th century, James Ensor was an innovative artist who produced an influential body of work in a variety of media. A retrospective exhibition is on view at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. From TheDailyBeast.com
  • Zero & Friends Spearheaded by two artists based in postwar Düsseldorf, Zero was too dynamic and heterogeneous to be called a style. Its emphasis on light, movement and ephemeral phenomena attracted like-minded innovators throughout Europe. From ArtinAmericaMagazine.com
