Of the three Léovilles Chateaux in the Pauillac region of Southwestern France (Las-Cases, Poyferré and Barton), Léoville-Las-Cases is universally the most admired. One of Bordeaux’s largest estates, it stretches from the town of St. Julien to the edge of the celebrated Château Latour. Estate size notwithstanding, Léoville-Las-Cases’s wines are made with fanatical precision – all grapes are harvested by hand - once by the late Michel Delon and now by his son, Jean-Hubert. For Léoville-Las-Cases, the Delons use grapes from a special walled vineyard, or grand clos, in the northern region of the estate whose entrance is marked by a large stone arch presided over by the lion of Las Cases. Over time, Léoville-Las-Cases has retained its reputation as the greatest wine of St. Julien.
