First introduced in 2001, the Freak watch earned its name by being able to function with no hands or crown. Stripping this timepiece of the two most elementary watch ingredients makes this a most unique piece of horology which stands out from the crowd.
So How Does It Work?
The inner mechanisms of the watch are completely visible and their rotation indicates the time without the use of conventional hands. While the transparent back revealing the mainspring works like a winding crown, the massive bezel serves as a time-setting device and is locked by a small lever to prevent from involuntary changes of time. The manufacturing process of the Freak is just as peculiar as the watch itself. Before sealing the case, the movement is tested outside the case using an external source of energy. The final composition operates with the simplest machinations with all the pieces tightly fitted together requiring no lubrication.
To take a closer look at this unique piece of horology come and inspect the ‘Freak’ in person at our viewing days at the Jumeirah Towers Hotel from the 25 to 28 October.
