Impressionist and Modern Art: All in the Family

All in the Family
Two prestigious families of artistic talent will be represented in our Impressionist and Modern Art sale this September.

Blanche Hoschede Monet (1865-1947), daughter-in-law of Claude Monet
Blanche Hoschede Monet enjoyed a special relationship with her father-in-law, Claude Monet. Married to Monet’s son Jean, Blanche spent her formative artistic years visiting the elder Monet in Giverny, painting side by side en plein air with the Impressionist master and acting as his caretaker in his later years.

Paulémile Pissarro (1884-1972), son of Camille Pissarro
The youngest of Camille’s five sons, Paulémile continued in his father’s footsteps to enjoy a prolific career in painting. After Camille’s death, Paulémile would travel to Giverny to study under Claude Monet, from whom he learned to capture the changing light in natural landscape, as in Pommier et Poirier en fleurs.

Hughes Claude Pissarro (b. 1935), son of Paulémile and grandson of Camille
Hughes Claude was raised amongst a flowering artistic environment tracing back two generations to his grandfather, Camille Pissarro. His first exhibition took place when he was only 14 years old, and he soon went on to train at the prestigious Ecole Normale Supérieur in Paris. Exploring myriad styles throughout his career including Impressionism, Abstraction, Minimalism and Conceptualism, his talents reflect his esteemed heritage.
