Create A Garden of Delights

Impressive in both their size and execution, this pair of Italian parcel-gilt bronze and marble jardinières represents the grandeur and taste for opulence that distinguished much of the decorative arts of the second half of the 19th century. Jardinières, large stands or pots used for plants or flowers, have traditionally been manufactured for lavish palazzo style gardens. However, the bases and decoration of the bowls of this exquisite pair show traces of exceptional gilding, indicating that they were perhaps intended for interior use.

Attractively worn and oxidized, new owners may preserve the attractive weathering to punctuate any garden landscape, or return the pair to their original gilded splendour. The quality of the ornamental verde antico marble, characterized by its dark green stone infused with thin veins of calcite, remains in fine condition, while the ornate and dramatic figural bases are reminiscent of the style of Italian and French Baroque masters, their bronze elements expertly chased and beautifully detailed.
