The Collection of Charles de Langlade

Born to a noble family in Marseille, Charles de Langlade worked as an antiques dealer for over 20 years, opening an antique shop in 1986 in Paris’ Rue de Beaune. Infused with a passion for maritime pursuits, this impressive collection reflects his family’s shipping background to which life in Marseille is so attached. Each piece exhibits his impeccable eye for style, the influence of nautical science and ultimately excellent taste. This collection is varied both in depth of choice and value.

Maritime Models
Like any great Maritime themed collection there is a varied and fine selection of ship models such as this frigate with two decks from the late 18th century. These models are hugely attractive as show pieces, as well as wonderful additions to any maritime collection.

19th Century Furniture & Old Masters
Among the varied assortment of pieces in this auction comes a selection of attractive Old Master works, 18th and 19th century furniture. Among them is this delightful painting depicting the commotion of the fair ground beside the port. People and animals in dialogue with each other fill the foreground. In the background a castle and ship come into focus.

Castellet and Apt Creamware
The French South-East area generated famous pottery centers such as Marseilles, Moustiers and Castellet-Apt because of the popular use of local refined clay. In the 18th/19th century Castellet and Apt centres, renowned for their "pâtes marbrées", marbled clay designs, produced many mythological and religious figures together with subjects emblematic of the seasons, or representing of King of France Louis XVIII.
