Points of View...Jay Vincze on Impressionist and Modern Sculpture

Jay Vincze"At Christie’s, and in the market place as a whole, we are seeing sophisticated collectors acquiring both sculpture and paintings, fully aware of the way in which they can complement one another. Sculpture has far-reaching appeal, both for its tangible, solid qualities and for its versatility. You can never see a sculpture in the same way: its free-standing nature gives it multiple viewing points which are ever-changing. The three-dimensional form also means that the fall of light on the sculpture’s surface enhances the different forms and textures of the materials used. The pieces of sculpture included in the Day sale are also immensely diverse in terms of style, as we see in the group here presented, from the classical Rodin to the figurative forms of both Picasso and Moore and finally through to Moore’s lyrical abstraction."
