Featuring Claude Monet’s resplendent Iris mauves, Pablo Picasso’s Tête and Marc Chagall’s Bouquet prés de la fenêtre, our 23 June Impressionist & Modern Art Evening Sale presents an exceptional selection of works by the most celebrated artists of the era. From Impressionism to Surrealism, the sale includes examples from some of the most radical and influential art movements of the period: from Alfred Sisley’s Le Potager to René Magritte’s poetic Le baiser. The sale is further highlighted by a group of three evocative sculptures by one of the doyens of the medium, Auguste Rodin.
The range and vibrancy of Impressionist & Modern Art is also seen in our Works on Paper Sale, which presents the very best of drawings and watercolour from the late 19th and 20th centuries. From a delicate Impressionist pastel by Renoir to a series of four explosive, exuberant gouaches from Dalí’s 1960s output and featuring works by Pablo Picasso spanning his entire career from 1901 to 1970, the auction presents a varied and rich array of works by the masters of Impressionist and modern art.
The Day Sale is led by a rare 1919 Picasso oil Compotier, bouteille, guitare devant une fenêtre ouverte with further highlights including Composition by Fernand Léger and Nature morte aux biscuits by Auguste Herbin. A particularly strong selection of modern sculpture features works by Wilhelm Lehmbruck, Antoine Pevsner and Alexander Archipenko from the Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection. An important European private collection of Impressionist pictures including works by Alfred Sisley, Pierre Bonnard, Edgar Degas and Pierre-Auguste Renoir will also be offered.
