As part of our series of films to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Christie’s South Kensington, clocks specialist Celia Harvey introduces some of the exceptional time pieces she works with — and gives her expert tips
‘Clocks have become art works in their own right,’ says Celia Harvey, a specialist in the Clocks, Marine Chronometers & Barometers department, giving an expert insight into some of the intricate pieces she works with at Christie’s South Kensington.
‘They are a way of expressing personality,’ Harvey insists. ‘I like to think of myself as an early Georgian character,’ she laughs, ‘but there are collectors who are a little less specific in their tastes.’
Amazingly intricate, these clocks ‘have become art works in their own right,’ says Harvey, with some having been trusted to keep time for up to 300 years.
