A restaurateur and property developer and a leading voice on Hong Kong’s art and design scene, Alan Lo is listed as one of Asia’s brightest young entrepreneurs by Bloomberg Business Week, as well as one of the 30 rising power players in the Asian art scene by Artinfo.
Here, Lo discusses his various projects, his life as a collector and how Christie’s has played a role in art education within Asia. ‘Design and art speak of how our generation sees things or aspires to become,’ he says.
The entrepreneur takes us inside The Pawn, a unique restaurant housed in a historic site, with a permanent exhibition of art by Hong Kong artists curated by Stanley Wong. There is also a glimpse of Duddell’s art space, which currently houses exhibitions of the MK Lau Collection and a special collaboration with the Dallas Museum of Art.
‘Art engages a wide audience,’ explains Lo. ‘In a city like Hong Kong where we still don’t have an international quality museum, it is extremely important to have these different alternative spaces where the public can gain access to art.’
